Position: Project Manager – MCGL

Contract length: Fixed Term
Location: Based in Country Office, Kathmandu
Technical responsibilities (40%)
Provide strategic, managerial and technical support to all components of MCGL project funded by USAID
Provide technical inputs in implementing a comprehensive model for SSNB care to be tested in selected facilities through relevant government bodies, professional associations and key stakeholders
Lead the technical discussions of the stakeholders to review WHO SSNB WHO SSNB standards, help in identifying gaps in current implementation and prioritize select quality statements for testing and implementation through existing mechanisms of government and partners
Lead MCGL project to work closely with bilateral projects like SSBH to jointly collaborate and perform tasks
Lead the activities of improving the quality of nutrition, quality of care for SSNBs, which includes a formative assessment to understand health providers’ perspective and the family’s perspective to practice nutrition behaviors for SSNBs during inpatient care, post discharge and post-natal period
Lead activities for the prioritization of quality improvement (QI) measures and build capacity of managers to use these measures to improve postnatal care for women and newborns and care of SSNBs
Build capacity of team members on newborn health and Quality improvement context as required
Responsible for coordinating with and keeping MCGL HQ team apprised of progress on technical aspects proactively advising of potential challenges and proposing mitigating measures, as relevant
Provide overall support to Maternal and peri-natal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) activities at federal and provincial level with support from team
Provide support to Monitoring of notification of maternal and perinatal death at hospitals and community and on-site support for review, cause assignment and response of maternal and perinatal deaths
Lead MCGL team to in consultation meetings with line agencies and government stakeholders.
Work in close coordination with Sr. Program Manager and Health Advisor of SC and Family Welfare Division to provide technical support in implementing project activities
Develop, conduct and track activities as outlined in the workplan and budget and ensure budget spending as budget holder for the project
Manage the MCGL team and provide mentoring support as and where required
Managerial and financial responsibilities (25%)
Coordinate with partners in country for consultation meetings eg USAID funded SSBH projects
Manage the project (programmatic, financial and human resources) in line with the approved project documents in consultation with supervisor and ensure quality results
Oversee day-to-day operations and management of activities for each of the project components-ensuring coordination between the team members in different components including Sr. Program Manager to ensure that all components are in tandem.
Maintain regular communication with donor, governmental stakeholders and the external consultants for both the technical as well as operational aspects of the project and provide regular updates
Ensure timely planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and documentation/reporting of the project activities
Monitor the financial expenditure regularly and ensure adequate burn rate of the project funds with support from finance department
- Identify and manage national consultants providing short-term technical assistance to project activities, as planned and when required
Documentation, reporting, research and learning (10%)
Responsible for preparing donor reports on MCGL project
Lead the learning agenda from Maternal and New born and quality of care issues.
Ensure that all donor reports required by Save the Children are produced on time and are of a consistently high quality
Organize learning and knowledge sharing events at national level
Take lead in program progress documentation, evaluation and research and dissemination of achievements and lessons learned with wider stakeholders
Additional responsibilities (10%)
Provide technical inputs in maternal and newborn health related issues including support to the country strategy and learning agenda
Represent research program at national and international level, as and when required
Support Health and Nutrition team for smooth operation and quality results as and when required
Update SC CO, H&N theme, government counterparts and EDPs about the project progress, challenges, way forward and sustainability approaches of the key achievements
Qualifications and experience
Master of Public Health, Medical Degree or Nurse midwife, Neonatal clinical degree will be an advantage
At least 7 years of progressive work experience in leading and managing health projects at INGO/Bilateral/Multilateral agencies (5 years for GSI group).
Work experience in new-born health will be preferred.
Experience in working effectively with government bodies, professional organizations preferred.
Experiences in USG funded programs desirable Experience in Research will be an asset

Higher degree of taking initiatives and has ability to work independently
Sound computer skills on word processing, spreadsheet, power-point, and other basic computer software
Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple competing demands, able to work in short deadlines with intense pressure
Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic reports that document program directions and results
Good and clear communication skills both oral and written
